Virtue Recovery Sulfate Free Shampoo with Keratin and Baobab Seed Oil for Damaged Hair, Color Safe

I’m a believer!
After my second child, my hormones went nuts and my hair really suffered. I used to have a long mane that was my signature look, but it became dry and brittle and dull after I stopped breastfeeding. Thinking I just needed a refresh, I chopped it off and highlighted the heck out of it, not knowing my hormones were actually to blame. I was left with a short, dried out shag that made me cry.
Once I figured out that I had to fix my hair from the inside out, I started going to the salon to get conditioning and glazes every three weeks to protect my hair while it recovered. While shelter in place was in affect, I ran out of my salon shampoo and went hunting online, ultimately deciding to try out this product.
Guys, this is a winner. I’m finally getting a trim today after about eight weeks and my stylist is amazed with the strength and thickness that’s returning! I agree with other reviewers that I saw a difference on the first wash.
My hair is naturally ashy blonde, thick and wavy (but not coarse). I wash it about twice a week and use a deep conditioner and leave in conditioner each time.
This shampoos price point is in line with salon products but DEFINITELY performs better. I’m in love!
Shampoo Basics & Tips
Hormonal Changes and Hair Health
Hormonal fluctuations, such as those after pregnancy or during menopause, can significantly impact hair health. These changes may reduce estrogen levels, leading to hair thinning, dryness, and brittleness. This occurs because hormones regulate the hair growth cycle, and imbalances can shorten the growth phase, resulting in shedding and damage. To counteract this, focus on a balanced diet rich in vitamins like biotin and iron, and consider consulting a healthcare provider for personalized advice.
Hair Repair from Inside Out
Repairing hair from the inside out involves addressing internal factors like nutrition, hydration, and overall health. Nutrients such as protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants support hair follicle strength and growth. For instance, consuming foods like eggs, nuts, and leafy greens can improve hair texture. Additionally, staying hydrated and managing stress through techniques like meditation can enhance hair recovery, as stress hormones like cortisol can exacerbate hair loss.
Salon Treatments vs. At-Home Care
Salon treatments, such as conditioning and glazes, provide intensive care using professional-grade products that can protect and strengthen hair. However, they can be costly and time-consuming. At-home care with quality shampoos and conditioners offers a convenient, affordable alternative. Look for products with ingredients like keratin, argan oil, or panthenol, which mimic salon effects by moisturizing and repairing hair cuticles. Regular use can maintain hair health between salon visits.
Shampoo Ingredients for Damaged Hair
Effective shampoos for damaged hair often contain ingredients that restore moisture and strength. For example, proteins like hydrolyzed wheat protein help rebuild hair structure, while silicones like dimethicone provide a protective layer to reduce breakage. Natural oils such as coconut oil penetrate the hair shaft to prevent protein loss. Avoid sulfates if you have dry hair, as they can strip natural oils. Always patch-test new products to ensure compatibility with your hair type.
Common Hair Problems and Solutions
Common hair issues include dryness, frizz, and breakage, often caused by over-washing, heat styling, or environmental factors. To combat this, limit washing to 2-3 times a week, use a wide-tooth comb to detangle wet hair, and apply heat protectants before styling. For color-treated hair, like ashy blonde shades, use sulfate-free shampoos to maintain vibrancy. Deep conditioning weekly and trimming split ends regularly can prevent further damage and promote healthier growth.
Hair Types and Care Routines
Understanding your hair type—such as thick, wavy, or fine—helps tailor your care routine. Thick, wavy hair may require more moisture to define curls and reduce frizz, so use leave-in conditioners and avoid heavy products that weigh hair down. Wash frequency depends on scalp oil production; twice a week is common for balanced hair. Always follow with a conditioner to seal moisture and protect against environmental stressors like UV rays, which can cause fading and weakness.
Affordable Hair Care Alternatives
Many affordable shampoos perform comparably to salon brands by using similar active ingredients. Look for drugstore options with positive reviews and ingredients like niacinamide for scalp health or ceramides for barrier repair. Comparing price per ounce can help budget effectively. Additionally, DIY treatments like avocado or honey masks can supplement your routine. Remember, consistency in care is key to seeing results, and rotating products occasionally can prevent buildup.
