This is a review from Amazon.com about product:
Tea Tree Special Shampoo, Deep Cleans, Refreshes Scalp, For All Hair Types, Especially Oily Hair, 33.8 fl. oz.

I've been using this shampoo for years now. I have a bit of a dry scalp that can get dandruff from time to time. Its not super bad and tends to show up when its been a little longer than normal for me to wash my hair (I can go like 4 to 5 days before I get dandruff)... But I use this stuff and it's just so soothing and really makes my scalp clean. It gets rid of the dandruff. I 100% recommend.
Shampoo Basics & Tips
What is Dry Scalp?
Dry scalp occurs when the skin on your head lacks sufficient moisture, leading to itching, flaking, and irritation. It can be caused by factors like cold weather, harsh hair products, or overwashing. Unlike dandruff, which is often due to a fungal infection, dry scalp involves simple dryness and can be managed with moisturizing shampoos containing ingredients like aloe vera or tea tree oil. Regular use of such products helps maintain scalp hydration and comfort.
Understanding Dandruff
Dandruff is a common condition characterized by white or yellow flakes of dead skin shedding from the scalp. It's often linked to an overgrowth of a yeast-like fungus called Malassezia, which thrives on oily scalps. Symptoms include itching and visible flakes. Anti-dandruff shampoos with active ingredients like zinc pyrithione or ketoconazole can control this by reducing fungus and inflammation. Consistent use, as mentioned in the review, helps keep dandruff at bay, even with extended wash intervals.
The Role of Soothing Ingredients in Shampoo
Soothing ingredients in shampoos, such as chamomile or menthol, provide relief from scalp irritation by calming inflammation and reducing itchiness. These components work by enhancing blood flow and hydrating the skin, making the shampoo feel refreshing and effective. For individuals with dry scalp, this soothing effect prevents further damage and promotes a healthier environment, allowing for longer periods between washes without discomfort.
How Washing Frequency Impacts Scalp Health
Washing frequency plays a crucial role in scalp health; overwashing can strip natural oils, leading to dryness, while underwashing may allow oil and dirt buildup, triggering dandruff. The review highlights going 4-5 days between washes—a balanced approach that helps maintain oil equilibrium. Using a gentle shampoo like this one supports this balance by cleansing without overdrying, reducing the need for frequent washing and minimizing flare-ups.
Tips for Choosing the Right Shampoo
When selecting a shampoo, consider your scalp type and specific issues like dryness or dandruff. Look for products labeled "moisturizing" or "anti-dandruff" with natural ingredients. Avoid sulfates if you have sensitive skin, and always patch-test new products. Regular scalp massages and a healthy diet can complement shampoo use for optimal results.
Common Scalp Care Questions
Many people wonder how often to wash their hair—generally, 2-3 times a week suffices for most, but adjust based on your scalp's needs. Other FAQs include whether dandruff is contagious (it's not) and how to prevent recurrence through consistent care. Using recommended shampoos and avoiding hot water can make a significant difference.
