Surface Hair - Awaken Therapeutic Shampoo – Natural Ingredients for Thinning Hair and a Healthy Scalp - 2 fl oz

I Stopped Hair Loss with This Scalp-Healing Shampoo

During my divorce I was so stressed my hair started falling out. This was also about the time of Covids first wave. My hair was past my bumms, but was getting shorter by the day. I didn't have allot of money at the time, but decided the 70.00 for a bottle may save my hair. It did. I have now used this shampoo for 4yrs and never will go back to anything else. One large bottle lasts me almost a year. You need very little of it. I let it sit on my scalp a while because it feels really good and has also cleared up some scalp issues I started having during menopause. I typically have extremely dry hair. It hasn't fixed my genetics LOL but ... when I brush my hair I no longer get handfuls of breakage in my brush. Most of the time there is no hair in my brush. This is an amazing product.

Shampoo Basics & Tips

Understanding Stress-Related Hair Loss

Stress can trigger a condition called telogen effluvium, where hair follicles prematurely enter the resting phase, leading to increased shedding. This often occurs during major life events like divorce or health crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, which the reviewer experienced. When you're stressed, your body releases cortisol, a hormone that can disrupt the hair growth cycle. Typically, hair loss becomes noticeable months after the stressful event, and it's usually temporary. To manage it, reducing stress through relaxation techniques, exercise, and a balanced diet can help, but using a targeted shampoo like the one in the review may support hair health by nourishing the scalp and strengthening strands.

The Impact of COVID-19 on Hair Health

The COVID-19 pandemic has been linked to increased hair loss due to physical and emotional stress, illness, or lifestyle changes. Many people reported hair shedding months after infection or during lockdowns, as the body diverts resources away from non-essential functions like hair growth. This aligns with the reviewer's experience during the first wave. Shampoos with ingredients like biotin, keratin, or natural oils can help mitigate this by providing essential nutrients. Additionally, maintaining a healthy routine and consulting a dermatologist for persistent issues is advisable, as hair loss from COVID-19 often resolves over time with proper care.

Menopause and Scalp Changes

Menopause brings hormonal shifts that can affect scalp health, leading to dryness, itching, or conditions like seborrheic dermatitis. Estrogen decline reduces oil production, making the scalp more prone to issues, as mentioned by the reviewer. Using a moisturizing shampoo with ingredients like tea tree oil, salicylic acid, or aloe vera can soothe irritation and maintain balance. It's also helpful to avoid harsh chemicals, wash hair regularly but not excessively, and consider supplements like omega-3s for overall skin and hair health during this life stage.

Dealing with Dry Hair and Breakage

Dry hair often results from genetics, environmental factors, or improper care, leading to breakage and split ends. The reviewer noted extremely dry hair, which can be managed with hydrating shampoos containing humectants like glycerin or proteins like collagen. Breakage occurs when hair is weak from damage, so minimizing heat styling, using wide-tooth combs, and applying leave-in conditioners can reduce it. Regular trims and a diet rich in vitamins A, C, and E also promote strength and elasticity, helping to prevent the handfuls of breakage described in the brush.

Economical Shampoo Usage Tips

Using shampoo economically, as the reviewer does with one bottle lasting almost a year, involves applying small amounts focused on the scalp and letting it sit to enhance efficacy. Concentrated formulas require less product, and techniques like diluting shampoo or using it only when necessary can extend its life. This not only saves money but also reduces environmental waste. Look for shampoos with high-quality ingredients that deliver results with minimal use, and avoid overwashing, which can strip natural oils and lead to more hair problems.

How to Choose the Right Shampoo for Hair Loss

Selecting a shampoo for hair loss should consider factors like scalp type, ingredients, and specific concerns like stress or menopause. Key ingredients to look for include caffeine (stimulates follicles), ketoconazole (reduces inflammation), or natural extracts like saw palmetto (blocks DHT, a hormone linked to loss). Always patch-test new products and consult reviews or professionals for personalized advice. For daily care, combine with a gentle conditioner and avoid sulfates if you have sensitive skin, as this can mimic the positive experience shared in the review.

Common Shampoo FAQs and Daily Knowledge

Many people wonder how often to shampoo—generally, 2-3 times a week is sufficient for most, but it depends on hair type. Over-washing can cause dryness, while under-washing may lead to buildup. Another common question is whether expensive shampoos are better; not always—focus on ingredient lists rather than price. For hair loss, consistency is key, and results may take weeks to appear. Additionally, storing shampoo in a cool, dry place preserves its efficacy. Remember, a holistic approach including diet and lifestyle changes often yields the best outcomes for hair health.
