Kristin Ess Deep Clean Clarifying Shampoo for Oily Hair & Build Up | Detox Purifying + Cleansing Oily Hair Treatment - Sulfate Free + Vegan - Product for Thick, Curly + Color Treated Hair

So I did a lot of research on protein buildup and came to the conclusion that was what was going on with my hair. There were lots of suggestions and most of them were kind of pricey. This one came highly recommended and was in a decent price range for a trial product.
First and foremost the other posts are correct, it does in fact smell amazing. Even a few hours after washing I can still smell it. I used a quarter size amount of shampoo as suggested on bottle and I didn’t find it to lather that well? Maybe it’s not meant too, I’m not sure. I added a little bit more. I was a little bit more generous with the conditioner as I felt my hair might need the moisturizing. I left the conditioner in for 3 mins or so before washing out. As soon as I started brushing it I could tell it worked, it was so easy to brush through and felt super healthy. I can definitely say it feels like a deep clean for sure for the scalp and hair. I use a lot of oils, styling products and hair coloring so I feel my hair really needed this cleanse. Great product to add to your hair care regimen! Not as a daily/main shampoo! Only use once/twice a month to keep hair healthy!
Worth the buy! No hair loss here (I was nervous reading the other reviews to be honest)!
Scent is floral like and smells really good!
Made my hair feel amazing, glad I bought it.
Shampoo Basics & Tips
Protein Buildup in Hair
Protein buildup occurs when excess proteins from hair products, hard water, or natural oils accumulate on the hair shaft, leading to dullness, brittleness, and difficulty in styling. It often happens with frequent use of protein-rich treatments or heavy styling products. To address it, use a clarifying shampoo like the one in the review, which contains ingredients that break down buildup without stripping natural oils. Regular maintenance, such as monthly deep cleaning, can prevent issues like breakage and improve overall hair health.
Shampoo Lather and Cleaning Efficiency
Shampoo lather, or foam, is often associated with cleaning power, but it doesn't always indicate effectiveness. Some shampoos, especially those for deep cleaning or with gentle formulas, may produce less lather due to fewer sulfates or specific ingredients aimed at reducing irritation. In the review, the user noted minimal lather, which could be intentional to avoid over-drying. Focus on how clean and healthy your hair feels post-wash rather than lather amount. For best results, apply shampoo to wet hair, massage gently, and rinse thoroughly to remove impurities.
Conditioner Use and Benefits
Conditioner helps moisturize and detangle hair by smoothing the cuticle layer, reducing frizz, and preventing damage. In the review, leaving conditioner for 3 minutes allows ingredients like silicones or natural oils to penetrate, enhancing softness and manageability. Overuse can lead to buildup, so tailor application to hair type—generous amounts for dry or damaged hair, lighter for oily hair. Incorporate it after shampooing for balanced hydration and protection against environmental stressors.
Deep Cleaning for Hair Health
Deep cleaning shampoos are designed to remove stubborn residues from oils, products, and pollutants, promoting scalp health and hair vitality. They often contain clarifying agents like citric acid or salicylic acid. As mentioned in the review, such shampoos are ideal for occasional use (e.g., once or twice a month) to avoid stripping natural oils, which can cause dryness. Benefits include improved texture, reduced buildup, and enhanced shine, making them suitable for those with heavy product use or colored hair.
Hair Care Regimen and Common Issues
A balanced hair care regimen involves alternating products to prevent issues like protein overload or moisture imbalance. Common problems include dryness, oiliness, and damage from heat or chemicals. Solutions include using sulfate-free shampoos for daily care, incorporating deep treatments weekly, and protecting hair from UV rays. For SEO-rich content, note that frequent questions cover how often to wash hair (2-3 times weekly for most types), signs of product buildup (e.g., limp hair), and tips for choosing shampoos based on hair goals like volume or color protection. Always patch-test new products to avoid allergies.

I used Nizoral shampoo weekly and it cured my dandruff without dryness.

I love how this shampoo lathers well and lasts a month, but it's costly for large families.
In my experience, this shampoo works well with good lather, but I need to use more product each time. One bottle lasts me roughly a month, yet the $10 cost is too high if you have a big family to consider.

I love how this shampoo cleans my scalp and helps with dandruff, and it has a nice fragrance too. But it makes my curly hair feel stripped and brushing more difficult, yet I keep using it for scalp care.
