MODA - Moisturizing Shampoo for All Hair Types, Apple, 128 Oz, Professional - Deeply Cleanses and Conditions, Strengthens, Restores and Shine your Hair - With Glycerin, Keratin, Collagen
Enough shampoo to last a year, it smells good, but not as good as the Apple Pectin from LaMaur that I will forever yearn. The OG apple pectin goes back to my high school days, first they got rid of the conditioner, which really was the ultimate, and now the shampoo. Sad. This brand works well and is a mediocre replacement, but I would recommend. Nice to use less packaging and refill the bottle in the shower as needed. Worth buying for sure
Shampoo Basics & Tips
Understanding Apple Pectin in Shampoo
Apple pectin, mentioned in the review as a beloved ingredient from LaMaur's discontinued products, is a natural polysaccharide derived from apples. It acts as a gentle cleanser and conditioner in shampoos, helping to soften hair, reduce frizz, and add shine by forming a protective film on strands. Historically popular in the 1990s (like during the reviewer's high school days), it symbolized a shift toward plant-based hair care. However, brands like LaMaur phased it out due to cost or reformulation trends, leading to nostalgia. Today, similar benefits can be found in pectin-infused shampoos, which are hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive scalps.
Benefits of Refillable Shampoo Systems
Refillable shampoos, as praised for reducing packaging, involve reusable bottles that can be topped up with concentrate or bulk refills, often in the shower. This eco-friendly approach cuts plastic waste by up to 70%, lowers carbon footprints from production and shipping, and saves money over time. For users, it offers convenience—no more frequent purchases—and aligns with sustainable living trends. Common systems include pouches or dispensers; always ensure refills are compatible to avoid leaks.
How Long Does Shampoo Last and Why It Matters
Shampoo longevity, highlighted as "enough to last a year," depends on factors like bottle size (e.g., 1-liter containers), frequency of use (daily vs. weekly), and hair type. On average, a 250ml bottle lasts 1-2 months, so a year's supply suggests bulk buying. Long-lasting shampoos reduce shopping trips and waste, but store them in cool, dry places to prevent degradation. Over time, exposure to air and moisture can diminish effectiveness, so check expiration dates—typically 2-3 years unopened.
Common Shampoo Questions and Daily Tips
Many users wonder about shampoo basics: How often should you wash hair? Aim for 2-3 times a week to avoid stripping natural oils, adjusting for oily scalps or active lifestyles. What makes a shampoo "mediocre" vs. great? Focus on ingredients—sulfate-free options are gentler, while added proteins strengthen hair. For eco-friendly choices, look for certifications like Leaping Bunny or refill programs. Lastly, if switching brands, patch-test first to prevent irritation, as sensitivities vary.
