I save money with SheaMoisture's long-lasting shampoo that makes my thick hair manageable in all weathers.
After years of searching, I found SheaMoisture shampoo and conditioner offer great value, lasting a year with little product. They make my hair manageable in all weathers, removing tangles effectively with correct washing methods.
This is a review from Amazon.com about product:
SheaMoisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Shampoo & Conditioner | 13 fl. oz. Each

The twosome is a really great value. It lasts a long time. I originally bought the 32 oz size which lasted me an entire year. You only need to use about a quarter size of the shampoo and the conditioner. Was never big on conditioners. They felt like I just put dirt on my hair. Always used only shampoos. Amway sold a really great shampoo & conditioner and then stopped selling it. So on to search for something similar and a good conditioner that I liked. I'm very picky about shampoos and conditioners.
I have thick shoulder length hair. Live in Arizona so summers are hot, winters so so. Need shampoos that work well in hot and colder weather. Luv the SheaMoisture.
Leaves the hair very manageable, even the conditioner takes majority of tangles out of the wet hair when running a comb thru it first or blow drying then putting comb thru it.
Learned long time ago from a few beautitioners that the shampoo doesn't need to be sudsy to make it clean. That's a gimmick sales people use to sell their shampoos. Only need a small amount of shampoo in the palm of the hand to wash the hair with. Don't use hot water, use warm water. Hot water will dry the hair out. Conditioner, don't use a ton of conditioner. Only use a small amount in palm of hand and gently rub into the hair. Leave on for few minutes before rinsing. Same with water temperature. Use Warm not hot so as not to dry hair out.
Do not use high temp on hair dryer when drying hair either. It will dry the hair out. Doesn't matter if short, medium length, or long hair, all the same. Shorter hair use even less shampoo and Conditioner.
Was reading some of the reviews from people who called this product worse ever. They apparently don't know anything about how to wash ones hair or they are a competitors brand. I have oily hair so I buy the one that suits all types of hair.
Shea Moisture does make different shampoos/conditions for different types of hair - oily, dry, hard to manage, straight, curly, etc. Make sure to buy one that suits your hair type and don't worry if you're not seeing a lot of lather like you think you should. Lots of lather means absolutely nothing. Just means takes longer to rinse out.
I do recommend this shampoo and is a good deal for the money. I pd high prices for expensive shampoos/conditioners that were horrible even from beauty salons. They're just wanting to sell their product(s). Some have good products. just don't get hung up on name brands and pricing.
Shampoo Basics & Tips
Proper Hair Washing Techniques Explained
Based on the review, using a small amount of shampoo (quarter-sized) is key because excessive lather is a marketing gimmick; it doesn't affect cleanliness. Shampoos clean by removing dirt and oil through surfactants, not foam. Always use warm water, not hot, as hot water strips natural oils, leading to dryness. For conditioner, apply a pea-sized amount, massage gently, and leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing with warm water to lock in moisture without weighing hair down.
Choosing the Right Shampoo for Your Hair Type
SheaMoisture offers targeted products for different hair types, like oily or dry hair. Select one that matches your needs—oily hair benefits from clarifying shampoos, while dry hair needs moisturizing formulas. This prevents issues like buildup or irritation. Avoid judging by lather; focus on ingredients like shea butter for hydration.
Common Hair Care Mistakes to Avoid
High heat from hair dryers can cause damage by dehydrating hair strands, leading to breakage. Use medium or cool settings instead. Overusing shampoo or conditioner wastes product and can cause residue; start with small quantities. Also, washing too frequently strips natural oils—aim for 2-3 times a week based on hair type.
Benefits of Conditioner and How to Use It
Conditioners, like SheaMoisture's, detangle hair by smoothing cuticles and adding moisture. They reduce frizz and make combing easier, as mentioned in the review. For best results, apply after shampooing, focusing on ends, and rinse thoroughly to avoid greasiness.
Frequently Asked Questions About Shampoo
How often should I wash my hair? It depends on hair type—oily hair may need daily washes, while dry hair benefits from less frequent washing. Can shampoo cause hair loss? Rarely; it's usually due to genetics or harsh products. Why does my hair feel dry? It could be hard water, hot showers, or sulfate-heavy shampoos. Switch to gentle, sulfate-free options like SheaMoisture. What's the shelf life of shampoo? Typically 1-2 years; store in a cool, dry place to preserve efficacy.
