Tea Tree shampoo soothes my troubled scalp with weekly washes and leave-in conditioning for healthy, refreshed hair.
My problematic scalp thrives with Tea Tree shampoo's soothing properties. Weekly cleansing using 5-6 pumps with the last as leave-in conditioner delivers lasting freshness and hair health.
This is a review from Amazon.com about product:
WEN by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner - Cleansing Conditioner for Hair, Shampoo & Conditioner Cowash for Fine or Curly Hair, Co Wash with Rosemary Oil - Tea Tree, 16 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This is my 2nd bottle. I used about 3/4 of the 1st bottle and gave it to a family member to try and she never gave it back. My hair is extremely short, so I only cleanse once a week. I only do about5 or 6 pumps with the last pump being my leave in conditioner. I've also tried Fig and the summer cleanser the Mango Coconut? The Fig is okay. The Mango Coconut is okay. I like the smell. Not a big fan of the Sweet Almond.
I have trouble hair/scalp, so that's why I continue to use the Tea Tree. Would recommend it.
Shampoo Basics & Tips
Tea Tree Oil Benefits
Tea tree oil contains terpenoids with natural antifungal and antibacterial properties. When used in shampoos, it penetrates hair follicles to reduce scalp inflammation, dandruff, and itchiness. Clinical studies show it effectively manages seborrheic dermatitis by regulating microbial balance without stripping natural oils.
Optimal Hair Washing Frequency
Washing short hair weekly (as mentioned in the review) suits low-porosity hair or dry scalps. This frequency preserves sebum protection while preventing product buildup. However, oily scalps may need 2-3 weekly washes. Always tailor frequency to your scalp's oil production and environmental factors like humidity.
Leave-In Conditioner Science
Using the last shampoo pump as leave-in (mentioned in the review) works because modern formulas contain cationic surfactants that detangle without residue. True leave-in conditioners feature hydrolyzed proteins and silicones that seal cuticles, reduce frizz, and provide heat protection up to 450°F. They should be applied mid-length to ends, never roots.
Shampoo Quantity Guidelines
Using 5-6 pumps for short hair aligns with dermatologist recommendations: 1 pump per 2 inches of hair length. Overuse causes dryness, while underuse leaves residue. Concentrated formulas require less - always emulsify with water before application to boost spreadability.
Essential Oil Fragrance Differences
Tea tree's medicinal scent comes from terpinen-4-ol (40% concentration), which also delivers therapeutic effects. Fig fragrance typically uses benzyl salicylate for fruity notes, while mango-coconut blends rely on lactones for tropical tones. Sweet almond utilizes benzaldehyde, which some find overpowering due to its marzipan-like intensity.
Troubled Scalp Solutions
Common scalp issues include psoriasis (silvery scales), folliculitis (inflamed follicles), and dermatitis. Beyond tea tree, proven solutions include: - Zinc pyrithione shampoos for fungal issues- Salicylic acid treatments for plaque buildup- Cold-pressed argan oil massages for hydration- pH-balanced (5.5) formulas to maintain acid mantle integrity
Shampoo Selection Criteria
Choose shampoos based on scalp condition first, then hair type. Clarifying formulas suit oily scalps, sulfate-free options help colored/dry hair, while chelating shampoos remove hard water minerals. Always patch-test new products behind the ear for 48 hours to check for irritation before full application.
