This is a review from Amazon.com about product:
Avalon Organics Therapy Scalp Normalizing Shampoo, Tea Tree Mint, 14 Oz

This shampoo is the best! Smells nice and natural. After using this shampoo for many months I've found I'm able to wash my hair less frequently which saves sooo much time in the morning. When I first started using it I didn't love it because I felt like my hair wasn't getting clean enough, but it actually does what it says and calmed my scalp down to where it isn't overproducing oils anymore. It's nice to not have to wash my hair every single day! Since I don't have to use it as frequently the bottle lasts quite a long time, even with my thick long hair I can keep a bottle for 3-4 months.
Shampoo Basics & Tips
How Shampoo Formulas Affect Scalp Health
The reviewer experienced reduced oiliness through consistent use of a mild shampoo. Many sulfate-free formulas (like this one) help reset scalp pH balance over 4-6 weeks. When switching from harsh shampoos, initial "adjustment phases" are common as sebum production normalizes.
Why Washing Frequency Matters
Overwashing strips natural oils, triggering rebound oil production. By extending wash intervals (as achieved here), hair trains itself to maintain equilibrium. Those with thick hair particularly benefit from reduced washing, as their scalp sebum takes longer to travel down hair shafts.
Decoding Shampoo Longevity
A 3-4 month supply for thick hair suggests concentrated formula efficiency. Look for keywords like "sulfate-free" or "low-lather" - these require smaller amounts per wash. Bottle size (typically 12-16oz) combined with 2-3 weekly uses creates cost-effectiveness.
Natural Fragrance Considerations
The "nice and natural" scent indicates essential oil blends rather than synthetic perfumes. While initially subtle, natural fragrances avoid irritating sensitive scalps. However, citrus or mint oils in some formulas can cause dryness if overused.
Common Shampoo Transition Questions
Q: Why does hair feel "waxy" when switching shampoos?
A: This detox phase (1-3 weeks) occurs as silicones/harsh cleansers wash out. Persist through it for long-term benefits.
Q: Can all hair types reduce washing frequency?
A: Curly and thick hair adapts best. Fine-haired users might need dry shampoo between washes during transition.
