This conditioner moisturizes, protects color, and detangles my long hair perfectly.
As a long-haired user, I prioritize moisture and color protection. Virtue conditioner detangles effortlessly, combats weather damage, and pairs with their leave-in spray for occasional heat styling. A worthy investment!
This is a review from Amazon.com about product:
VIRTUE Recovery Conditioner with Keratin Hydrates, Softens, and Renews Damaged Hair, Sulfate Free, Color Safe
Expensive but worth it. I’ve been using Virtue for a couple of years. The conditioner is so worth the price to me because I have very long and color-treated hair. This conditioner moisturizes, protects, and detangles my hair. There are so many brands out there, and I used to use Aveda shampoo and conditioner exclusively for years. Now I alternate between Aveda and Virtue depending on the season and weather. The way I see it, hair is affected by the weather and water quality in the cities we live in (out of our control). Therefore, I think it’s worth the investment in better hair care (that’s something we can control). I protect my long color treated hair by using this virtue conditioner, virtue leave-in spray conditioner, and only heat styling on occasion. I hope this helps!
Shampoo Basics & Tips
Why Color-Treated Hair Needs Special Care
Color-treated hair has raised cuticles from chemical processing, making it prone to dryness and fading. Virtue's conditioner likely contains hydrolyzed proteins (e.g., keratin) to seal cuticles, locking in moisture and color pigments. This explains the reviewer's emphasis on "moisturizes" and "protects."
How Weather Affects Hair Health
Humidity causes frizz by disrupting hydrogen bonds in hair, while hard water (high mineral content) strips moisture and dulls color. The reviewer's brand-switching strategy adapts to seasonal changes: lightweight formulas for summer humidity, richer ones for winter dryness.
Heat Styling Protection Mechanics
Heat tools degrade hair's keratin at 300°F+. Leave-in sprays with thermal protectants (dimethicone, panthenol) form a barrier, reducing水分 loss and friction during styling. The reviewer's "occasional" heat use aligns with minimizing damage.
Detangling Science
Cationic surfactants in conditioners (e.g., behentrimonium chloride) neutralize static charges, smoothing strands for easier combing. This prevents breakage in long hair, as mentioned in the review.
Choosing Between Brands: Aveda vs. Virtue
Aveda focuses on plant extracts (e.g., rosemary for scalp health), while Virtue uses patented Alpha Keratin 60ku® to rebuild hair structure. Alternating them, as the reviewer does, combines strengthening and botanical benefits.
FAQ: Maintaining Long Color-Treated Hair
**How often should I condition?** Daily if porous; 2-3x/week for oily scalps. **Can I skip heat protectant?** Never – even low heat (185°F) damages over time. **Does water quality matter?** Install a shower filter if hair feels stiff post-wash.
