I have super thick 3c hair, and this shampoo made it incredibly soft, moisturized, shiny, and healthy with less washing.
This is a review from Amazon.com about product:
Sebastian Professional Drench Shampoo | Deep Moisturizing for Chemically Treated Hair | 33.8 fl oz

I bought this product months and months ago and holy cow! I am so impressed! For reference, I have super thick, 3c hair. I was previously using Chi shampoo & conditioner- which I also loved, it made my hair so soft and shiny - but it also made it greasy. Like ridiculously greasy. I was having wash my hair every other day because it was so greasy. Since switching to this shampoo, conditioner and hair mask, I have only been washing my hair twice a week and often get away with washing it once a week when I get lazy or just don't have time. My hair is so soft, moisturized, shiny and overall so much healthier. I've had several family members as well as my hair dresser remark on it since using. It is pricey, but for how much me and my hair have been loving this set of products, I will continue to buy.
Shampoo Basics & Tips
Understanding 3C Hair Type
3C hair refers to a specific curl pattern in the hair typing system, which categorizes hair from type 1 (straight) to type 4 (coily). Type 3 hair is curly, and 3C denotes tight, corkscrew curls that are often springy and dense. This hair type is typically thick, high in porosity, and prone to dryness because the natural oils from the scalp struggle to travel down the curly strands. As a result, people with 3C hair need moisturizing products, like the shampoo mentioned in the review, to maintain softness and prevent breakage. Understanding your hair type helps in choosing the right products for optimal health and manageability.
Causes and Solutions for Greasy Hair
Greasy hair occurs when the scalp produces excess sebum, an oily substance that moisturizes the hair but can build up. Factors like over-washing, using harsh shampoos, hormonal changes, or product buildup can stimulate sebum production. In the review, the user experienced greasiness with a previous shampoo, possibly due to ingredients that stripped natural oils, causing rebound oiliness. Switching to a balanced shampoo with gentle cleansers can regulate oil production. Tips to reduce greasiness include washing less frequently, using sulfate-free formulas, and avoiding heavy conditioners on the scalp. This aligns with the user's experience of washing hair only twice a week after switching products.
Benefits of Hair Masks in Hair Care
A hair mask, like the one mentioned in the review, is a deep conditioning treatment designed to nourish and repair hair. It typically contains richer ingredients than regular conditioners, such as oils, butters, and proteins, which penetrate the hair shaft to restore moisture, shine, and strength. For thick or curly hair like 3C types, masks help combat dryness and frizz by providing intense hydration. Regular use can improve hair elasticity, reduce split ends, and enhance overall health. In the review, the hair mask contributed to soft, moisturized hair, allowing for less frequent washing. Incorporating a mask weekly or bi-weekly can maintain hair vitality, especially for those with demanding hair types.
Choosing Shampoo for Thick Hair
Thick hair, characterized by a high density of hair strands per square inch, requires shampoos that provide moisture without weighing it down. Key ingredients to look for include hydrating agents like glycerin, natural oils (e.g., argan or coconut oil), and proteins that strengthen hair. Avoid sulfates that can dry out thick hair, leading to brittleness. The reviewed shampoo likely contains such elements, as it left the user's hair soft and shiny. For thick hair, washing frequency should be adjusted based on oiliness—over-washing can strip oils, while under-washing may cause buildup. The user's shift to twice-weekly washing demonstrates how the right product balances cleanliness and moisture.
Common Hair Care Questions Answered
Many people wonder how often to wash their hair. The answer depends on hair type and lifestyle; for example, oily hair might need more frequent washing, while dry or curly hair benefits from less. Generally, 2-3 times a week is recommended for balanced hair. Another common question is about the difference between shampoo and conditioner: shampoo cleanses the scalp and hair, while conditioner moisturizes and detangles. Using both, as in the review, ensures comprehensive care. Additionally, hair masks should be applied after shampooing, left on for 5-10 minutes, and rinsed thoroughly for best results. These practices help maintain healthy hair, reduce issues like greasiness, and enhance longevity of hair treatments.
