This is a review from Amazon.com about product:
Marc Anthony Curly Hair Shampoo, Strictly Curls - 3x Moisture For Curl Defining & Curl Enhancing - Shea Butter, Marula Oil, Aloe Vera & Coconut Cream - Sulfate Free & Color Safe For Dry Damaged Hair

This conditioner really helped with my hair breakage and fallout.
I waited until I finished the entire bottle to write this review and I am pleasantly surprised that it helped as much as it did for the price. I will be repurchasing.
To be clear, the shampoo and conditioner did not help to grow new hair but it significantly decreased the amount of hair I lost before, during, and after washing my hair. The key is to use it consistently, which is easy.
It is very moisturizing so I didn't use too much or leave it on my scalp for very long and I made sure to use a clarifying shampoo every other week since my hair is very fine and doesn't have much volume.
Shampoo Basics & Tips
What is Hair Breakage?
Hair breakage refers to the snapping or splitting of hair strands, often caused by damage from excessive styling, heat tools, chemical treatments, or environmental factors like sun exposure. It differs from hair loss (shedding from the root) because breakage occurs along the hair shaft due to weakened structure. Common causes include over-brushing, using harsh products, or lack of moisture. To prevent breakage, use gentle hair care routines, avoid tight hairstyles, and incorporate moisturizing products like the one in the review, which helps strengthen hair and reduce snapage.
Understanding Hair Fallout
Hair fallout, or shedding, is a natural part of the hair growth cycle, where old hairs fall out to make way for new growth. On average, people lose 50-100 hairs daily, but excessive fallout can result from stress, hormonal changes, poor nutrition, or inadequate hair care. The reviewer experienced reduced fallout during washing, indicating the shampoo's ability to minimize breakage and shedding by improving hair strength and elasticity. This is often achieved through ingredients that nourish the scalp and hair follicles, promoting healthier strands that are less prone to falling out prematurely.
The Importance of Moisturizing in Hair Care
Moisturizing in hair care involves hydrating the hair shaft to maintain flexibility, prevent dryness, and reduce breakage. Shampoos and conditioners with moisturizing properties, like the one reviewed, contain humectants (e.g., glycerin) or emollients (e.g., oils) that lock in moisture. For people with fine hair, as mentioned, over-moisturizing can weigh hair down and reduce volume, so it's essential to use such products in moderation and pair them with clarifying shampoos to balance hydration without buildup. Proper moisturizing can enhance shine, softness, and overall hair health, making it less susceptible to damage.
What is a Clarifying Shampoo?
A clarifying shampoo is a deep-cleansing product designed to remove buildup from hair, such as residue from styling products, hard water minerals, excess oils, and pollutants. It typically contains stronger surfactants than regular shampoos and should be used periodically (e.g., once a week or bi-weekly, as the reviewer did) to prevent issues like dullness, itchiness, or reduced product efficacy. For fine hair, clarifying helps maintain volume by stripping away heavy residues, but overuse can lead to dryness, so it's best followed by a conditioner. This practice supports overall hair hygiene and allows other products, like moisturizing shampoos, to work more effectively.
Dealing with Fine Hair and Lack of Volume
Fine hair has a small diameter individual strands, making it prone to flatness, oiliness, and lack of volume. To address this, use lightweight, volumizing products that don't weigh hair down, avoid heavy conditioners on the scalp, and incorporate techniques like blow-drying for lift. The reviewer noted using a clarifying shampoo bi-weekly to combat buildup that can flatten fine hair. Additionally, choosing shampoos with proteins or polymers can temporarily thicken strands, while a balanced diet rich in vitamins (e.g., biotin) supports hair health from within. Regular trims and avoiding over-washing also help maintain body and prevent breakage in fine hair types.
The Role of Consistent Use in Hair Products
Consistent use of hair products is key to achieving desired results because hair care is a cumulative process. Ingredients need time to penetrate and repair the hair structure, strengthen follicles, and balance scalp health. The reviewer emphasized that easy, regular application led to reduced breakage and fallout, as consistency allows products to build up protective benefits. Skipping uses can interrupt this process, leading to variable outcomes. For best results, establish a routine tailored to your hair type, and be patient—most products show improvements after several weeks of continuous use, as seen with the reviewer finishing the entire bottle before noting changes.
General Tips for Choosing Shampoo
When selecting a shampoo, consider your hair type and specific concerns. For example, if you have dry hair, look for moisturizing ingredients like argan oil or shea butter; for oily hair, opt for clarifying or balancing formulas. Key factors include sulfate-free options for gentle cleansing, pH-balanced products to maintain scalp health, and ingredients targeting issues like breakage (e.g., keratin or biotin). Always read labels to avoid allergens and test products on a small area first. The reviewer's experience highlights the importance of affordability and effectiveness—compare reviews and ingredients to find shampoos that align with your needs without breaking the bank.
Common Hair Care Questions
Q: How often should I wash my hair? A: It depends on your hair type—typically 2-3 times a week for normal hair, but fine or oily hair may require more frequent washing, while dry hair benefits from less. Over-washing can strip natural oils, leading to breakage. Q: Can shampoo help with hair growth? A: Shampoos alone don't usually promote new growth, but they can create a healthy environment by reducing breakage and fallout, as the reviewer observed. Focus on products that strengthen existing hair. Q: What's the difference between shampoo and conditioner? A: Shampoo cleanses the scalp and hair, while conditioner moisturizes and detangles, working together to prevent damage. For fine hair, apply conditioner mainly to the ends to avoid weighing it down.
