This is a review from Amazon.com about product:
Kristin Ess Hair The One Purple Shampoo for Toning Blonde Hair - Neutralizes Brass + Yellow Tones, Shine Restoring - Sulfate, Silicone and Paraben Free, Color + Keratin Safe, 10 fl. oz.

This is such a good purple shampoo! I was in the market for a new one recently and hadn’t loved my old one, so after reading some reviews I bought this one and I love it!
It has such a good pigment to it, and it does say on the bottle that it’s an ultra violet pigment and to only use it when needed (not every shower) and it’s lasted me a long time already. Because it’s so pigmented, I mix it with my regular shampoo and I haven’t had any problems with it staining my hair, but my sister did not heed my warning and it turned her hair purple (lol) so definitely make sure to mix it if you have very light blonde hair.
It’s the only purple shampoo that I’ve traveled with and hasn’t leaked, so that’s a big win for me. It smells great and leaves my hair feeling good and not dry, which is very important for me because I have textured, wavy/curly hair that I bleach myself so I have to be careful when I buy purple shampoos.
It’s a great price for what you get and I will definitely be repurchasing when it runs out!
Understanding Purple Shampoo: Why It Works and How to Use It
Purple shampoo is a color-correcting hair care product that uses violet pigments to neutralize unwanted warm tones—like brassiness, yellow, or orange—in blonde, silver, or light-colored hair. The science behind it is based on the color wheel: purple is opposite yellow, so the pigments cancel each other out. Kristin Ess's version is described as having “ultra-violet pigment,” meaning it is highly concentrated and very effective at toning.
Why This Purple Shampoo Stands Out
According to the customer review, this shampoo is “such a good purple shampoo” because of its strong pigment, non-drying formula, and leak-proof travel design. Many purple shampoos can be harsh, leaving hair dry and brittle—especially for those with textured, wavy, or curly hair that has been bleached. This product, however, is sulfate-free, which is crucial for maintaining moisture. Sulfates are harsh detergents that strip natural oils and color, so a sulfate-free formula helps preserve hair health and color longevity.
How to Use It for Best Results (Without Turning Your Hair Purple)
The reviewer warns that direct application on very light blonde hair can cause purple staining. This happens because the pigment is so strong it can deposit color unevenly. The solution: mix a small amount of purple shampoo with your regular shampoo (a 1:1 ratio or less) to control the intensity and avoid over-toning. The product instructions also recommend applying more where you see brassiness (often the roots for warm tones) and letting it sit longer there, then working it through the ends. Rinse thoroughly and follow with a conditioner or hydrating mask to restore moisture.
Key Product Features and Benefits
Ultra-Violet Pigment: Delivers intense toning to reduce brass and yellow, leaving hair cool-toned and shiny. Because it's so pigmented, one bottle lasts a long time—you only need a small amount each wash, or you can mix it with regular shampoo for a milder effect.
Sulfate-Free, Paraben-Free, Phthalate-Free: Gentle enough for color-treated and chemically processed hair. This helps prevent dryness, which is especially important for wavy, curly, and bleached hair types that are naturally more porous and prone to moisture loss.
Non-Drying Formula: The review specifically mentions that it leaves hair feeling good and not dry, unlike many other purple shampoos. This is likely due to the inclusion of conditioning agents and the absence of sulfates. For wavy/curly hair, maintaining moisture is critical to prevent frizz and breakage.
Leak-Proof Travel Design: A small but practical benefit—no mess in your luggage, making it a reliable travel companion.
Pleasant Scent: The product has a pear scent (according to the product specs), which the reviewer finds great.
Good Value for Money: With a high concentration of pigment and a reasonable price point, this shampoo offers long-lasting use. The reviewer calls it “a great price for what you get” and plans to repurchase.
Who This Product Is For
This purple shampoo is ideal for anyone with blonde, silver, or light-colored hair who wants to maintain a cool, ashy tone and combat brassiness. It works on both natural and color-treated hair. The sulfate-free, cruelty-free formula makes it suitable for those with sensitive scalps or who prefer clean beauty products. However, if you have very light blonde or platinum hair, the strong pigment may require dilution or careful application to avoid purple staining, as the reviewer's sister experienced.
Tips for Avoiding Over-Toning
If you like neutral or warm tones, use this shampoo only when needed—for example, once a week or every other wash. If you prefer ashy or pastel lavender tones, you can use it every shower. Start with a small amount mixed with your regular shampoo, and gradually increase if needed. Always rinse well and follow with a deep conditioner or mask, especially if you have dry or textured hair.
