This is a review from Amazon.com about product:
Leonor Greyl Gentle Dandruff Shampoo (Bain Traitant a La Propolis), Propolis & Chamomile Natural Dandruff Shampoo, 6.7 oz. Made In France

This is the only shampoo that ever worked for dandruff on my hair. It's been so effective that i forgot I ever had dandruff and only remember when I chance to use hotel shampoo every once in a while. Great product, smells good. The only downfall of that you really do need to follow the instructions for best results and sometimes it can feel very time consuming.. Or maybe I'm just lazy. :)
Shampoo Basics & Tips
Understanding Dandruff and Effective Shampoos
Dandruff, characterized by flaking and often an itchy scalp, is commonly caused by an overgrowth of a naturally occurring yeast-like fungus called Malassezia. This fungus feeds on scalp oils, producing oleic acid, which can irritate the scalp and accelerate skin cell turnover, leading to visible flakes.
Key Ingredients for Fighting Dandruff
Effective anti-dandruff shampoos contain active ingredients targeting the root causes. Common ones include:
Why Following Instructions Matters
The reviewer highlights the importance of following the shampoo's instructions. Here's why it's crucial:
Hotel Shampoos vs. Therapeutic Shampoos
The reviewer mentions dandruff recurrence when using hotel shampoos. These are typically basic cleansing shampoos designed for general use, not therapeutic treatment. They lack potent anti-fungal or anti-flaking agents. Using them interrupts the maintenance routine provided by the medicated shampoo, allowing the Malassezia population to rebound, leading to the return of symptoms.
Managing the "Time-Consuming" Factor
While the reviewer jokes about laziness, the perceived time commitment is valid. Here are tips to integrate therapeutic shampooing efficiently:
Beyond Dandruff: Scalp Health
A healthy scalp is the foundation for healthy hair. Dandruff shampoos address a specific issue, but overall scalp care includes gentle cleansing, avoiding excessive scratching, managing stress (a known trigger for some), and a balanced diet. If over-the-counter shampoos like this one don't provide relief, consulting a dermatologist is essential to rule out other conditions like psoriasis or severe seborrheic dermatitis.
