Clarifying Shampoo for Build Up & Oily Hair - Tea Tree Shampoo for Men and Women with Rosemary Essential Oil for Oily Hair and Scalp - Color Safe Vegan Sulfate Silicone & Paraben Free (8 Fl Oz)

I bought this shampoo after reading a review that it helps with break outs. I’m in my late 50’s and have had a problem for years with my scalp breaking out with pimples. This causes me to pick at my skin and create more problems. Within four days of using the shampoo I noticed only one new pimple and the old ones were healing quickly. It’s now a week since I started using it, everything is just about healed and there’s no new ones! I’m very impressed! Now about the shampoo itself. I’m not a fan of the smell of tea tree oil but this is a light scent that’s actually quite soothing. The shampoo is gentle and lathers well. I’ve found a little goes a long way on my short hair. I let it sit on my scalp for a few minutes while I shower then rinse well. My hair feels very clean afterwards but it has static after I blow dry it. I rarely use conditioner because my hair is straight, fine, natural silver and goes limp from the extra weight. I’ve had to start using a different brand detangler since using this shampoo just to get rid of the static. I just ordered this company’s matching tea tree conditioner after reading good reviews so I’m looking forward to getting it. I want to add that up until I started using this product a week ago I used Paul Mitchell’s tea tree shampoo on the advice of my hairdresser. I saw no improvement whatsoever with my scalp break outs after using it daily for months. I did a search on Amazon for something new, read all the great reviews for this shampoo and I’m so glad I ordered it!
Shampoo Basics & Tips
Understanding Scalp Acne and Breakouts
Scalp acne, often referred to as folliculitis, involves inflammation of hair follicles leading to pimples or bumps on the scalp. It can result from factors like excess oil production, bacterial infections, sweat, or product buildup. In the review, the user mentions breakouts that caused picking, which can worsen inflammation and lead to scarring. Treating scalp acne typically requires ingredients that reduce bacteria and soothe irritation, such as tea tree oil, which has natural antimicrobial properties. Maintaining a clean scalp and avoiding harsh products can prevent recurrences. If persistent, consulting a dermatologist is advisable to rule out conditions like seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis.
The Role of Tea Tree Oil in Shampoo
Tea tree oil, derived from the Melaleuca alternifolia plant, is a popular ingredient in shampoos due to its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal properties. It helps combat scalp issues like dandruff, acne, and itching by targeting bacteria and fungi. In the review, the user notes a light, soothing scent, which is common in formulations designed to be gentle. Tea tree oil can unclog follicles and reduce redness, but it should be used in diluted forms to avoid skin irritation. For those with sensitive skin, patch testing is recommended. Its benefits extend to promoting overall scalp health, making it a key component in products aimed at treating breakouts.
Dealing with Static Hair After Washing
Static electricity in hair often occurs after blow-drying, especially in dry environments or with fine, straight hair like the user describes. It results from friction and lack of moisture, causing strands to repel each other. To reduce static, use a humidifier, avoid over-drying, and apply leave-in conditioners or anti-static sprays. The review mentions the user rarely uses conditioner due to hair going limp, but lightweight detanglers or silicone-free products can help without adding weight. Additionally, using a ionic hair dryer or natural bristle brush can minimize static. Incorporating hydrating shampoos with ingredients like argan oil may also improve moisture balance.
Choosing the Right Shampoo for Your Hair Type
Selecting a shampoo depends on hair type and concerns. For fine, straight, and silver hair like the user's, volumizing or clarifying shampoos that avoid heavy oils are ideal. Look for sulfate-free formulas to prevent dryness and static. If dealing with scalp issues, opt for products with active ingredients like salicylic acid or tea tree oil. The review highlights the importance of gentleness and good lather, which often comes from surfactants that clean without stripping natural oils. Always consider pH-balanced shampoos to maintain scalp health, and if switching products, give it a few weeks to see results, as immediate changes may not be apparent.
Common Shampoo Myths and Facts
Many believe that shampooing daily damages hair, but it depends on individual scalp conditions—oily scalps may benefit from frequent washing. Another myth is that all natural shampoos are better, but some can still cause reactions if not formulated properly. The review shows that even recommended products like Paul Mitchell's may not work for everyone, emphasizing the need for personalized choices. Additionally, lather doesn't always indicate cleanliness; it's the ingredients that matter. For static or limp hair, using the right conditioner is crucial, as skipping it can lead to issues like the user experienced. Always read reviews and ingredient lists to make informed decisions.

I love this shampoo for avoiding dryness and weird residue, though I wish it lathered more despite double washing.
This shampoo keeps my hair hydrated without odd residue or dryness, standing out from harsher formulas. However, lathering is disappointing despite repeated washing. I'll monitor long-term changes since results take time.
I found sufficient cleaning but no deep clean difference, with an annoyingly strong, long-lasting scent.
This shampoo cleaned my hair adequately but didn't deliver promised deep cleaning results. Its excessively strong, long-lasting scent became annoying, and the $34 price seems high for a small bottle, though twice-weekly use might improve value.
This pH-balancing shampoo gently removes product buildup while protecting my thin hair from damage.
Following baking soda washes, this shampoo balances my scalp pH, thoroughly cleanses hair products without damage, reduces split ends, and maintains volume in my thin hair between washes. 20 words
