My experience with this shampoo: nice scent, but very dry, frizzy hair.
From my experience with this shampoo, the lovely smell did not even prevent my dry, frizzy hair and itchy scalp.Product Detail

Coco & Eve Like a Virgin Shampoo & Conditioner Bundle Set - Natural, Sulfate free Hair Care with Argan Oil, Coconut and Avocado Oil | For Dry Damaged, Color Treated Hair | Anti Frizz (8.4 fl oz each)

I have long (to my waist) type 2b/c hair so I was expecting my hair to really love this stuff. The packaging is great and the smell of the products are pleasing. After giving it 4-5 chances, I don’t think I’ll ever buy this stuff again. The shampoo isn’t great, I really prefer living proof or even not your mothers. It did give me a super dry scalp after the third use that made me unbearably itchy, but after washing again the itch went away. Still have a bit of dandruff from it but it’s not a crazy amount. The conditioner was not for my hair. My hair always soaks up moisture easily and this conditioner made it feel so dry and made it really frizzy. It surprised me because I’ve never had this issue with any conditioner. Really disappointing considering the price per oz of this product. I don’t want to use the rest of this product at all. If you have my hair type, don’t get this.
Edit: from 1 star to 4 because the seller reached out to me unprompted and issued me a full refund because of the products just not working for me. Really great communication. they did not ask me to change my review.
My Coco & Eve Shampoo Review: Dry Frizzy Hair Disaster
This Coco & Eve Shampoo Review is based on my honest experience with the Super Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner set. The product promises instantly hydrated, healthy hair and salon-quality shine. However, after using it four or five times, my long type 2b/c hair felt dry and frizzy, and my scalp became itchy. This review is not just about disappointment; it also explains the hair science behind what happened.
What Is Type 2b/c Hair?
In the review, I mentioned my long, waist-length type 2b/c hair. Hair typing is a broad system used to describe curl patterns. Type 2 hair is wavy, and 2b means defined S-shaped waves, while 2c means stronger, coarser waves that can frizz easily. Wavy hair often sits between straight and curly, so it needs moisture without excess weight. Products with heavy oils or too much protein can make wavy hair feel stiff, dry, and frizzy. That is my main finding in this Coco & Eve Shampoo Review: even a product designed for dry, damaged hair can be wrong for a wavy hair pattern.
ResistHyal and Hyaluronic Acid in the Formula
The product description says the set uses ResistHyal Hyaluronic Acid technology to increase moisture. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant that attracts water, helping hair look fuller and softer. ResistHyal is designed to keep that hydration inside the strand. In theory, this should help dry and damaged hair. In practice, my hair still felt dry and frizzy. A humectant can draw moisture into the hair, but if the cuticle remains rough or the hair does not have the right balance of oils, the moisture can escape quickly.
Fruit Enzymes and Coconut-Based Surfactants
The shampoo uses coconut-based surfactants and fruit enzymes to cleanse. Surfactants are the ingredients that lift oil, sweat, and product buildup from the scalp. Coconut-based surfactants are usually milder than sodium lauryl sulfate, but they can still be too drying for sensitive scalps. Fruit enzymes help break down impurities without harsh scrubbing. These ingredients fit a clean, sulfate-free formula, but they do not guarantee that your scalp will feel comfortable.
Why Did the Shampoo Make My Scalp Itchy?
I developed a super dry scalp after the third use. The itch was uncomfortable, and I noticed a small amount of dandruff after that. This could be an individual sensitivity to coconut derivatives, fragrance, or simply the cleansing action being too strong for my skin. In this Coco & Eve Shampoo Review, I want to be fair: the formula is sulfate-free, yet sulfate-free products can still irritate certain scalps. If your skin is reactive, patch testing is always a smart idea.
Dry Scalp vs Dandruff
Dry scalp and dandruff are different. Dry scalp happens when the skin lacks moisture, causing small white flakes and sometimes tightness. Dandruff is often linked to an overgrowth of Malassezia yeast, which feeds on scalp oils and can create larger, oilier flakes. A shampoo that irritates the scalp can make either condition worse. In my case, the flaking was mild, but it was enough to make this Coco & Eve Shampoo Review negative.
Why Did the Conditioner Leave My Hair Dry and Frizzy?
The Super Hydrating Cream Conditioner contains coconut oil, avocado oil, pea proteins, and hyaluronic acid. These ingredients can increase hydration and repair damage for many people. But some hair types, especially wavy hair that is easily overloaded, react badly to protein or coconut oil. Pea proteins can temporarily strengthen hair, but too much protein can make hair feel rough, dry, and frizzy. Coconut oil can penetrate the hair shaft, but for some people it causes stiffness rather than softness. Because this conditioner is silicone-free, it does not smooth the cuticle with the same slippery coating that many anti-frizz conditioners provide. This explains why my hair felt unusually dry and frizzy after using the conditioner.
Hair Porosity: Why Moisture Is Not Enough
My hair normally soaks up moisture easily, which points to high porosity or an open cuticle. High porosity hair absorbs water and products quickly, but it also loses moisture quickly. You usually need a balance of humectants and emollients. The product's hyaluronic acid attracts moisture into the hair. If the hair is left without enough sealing oils, or if the proteins create stiffness, the result can be frizz instead of smoothness. This is an important knowledge point from this Coco & Eve Shampoo Review: "more hydration" does not automatically equal "better hair."
The 2x Thicker Conditioner and 26x Hydration Claim
The product description says the 2x thicker conditioner increases hydration by 26 times. That sounds impressive, but a single measurement cannot predict how a specific hair type will respond. My long 2b/c hair wanted lightweight moisture and softness; the formula felt unbalanced on my strands, leaving me with dry, frizzy hair. This is why a Coco & Eve Shampoo Review can be negative even when the marketing claims are strong.
Living Proof vs Not Your Mother's
I mentioned that I prefer Living Proof or Not Your Mother's shampoos. Living Proof is a premium brand that uses patented molecules to create a smooth barrier against humidity. It is known for reducing frizz without silicones. Not Your Mother's is a more affordable drugstore brand with a wide range of sulfate-free options for wavy and curly hair. These alternatives work better for my hair because they are formulated for softness and frizz control in a way that suits my strands. The comparison matters because it shows that price and premium ingredients are not the only factors in a successful Coco & Eve Shampoo Review.
Price Per Ounce and Value
The review also mentioned disappointment with the price per ounce. Cost per ounce is a standard way to measure beauty products. If a shampoo and conditioner set costs more than similar products, users expect stronger results. My dry, frizzy hair made the price harder to accept. Even though the packaging is great and the smell is pleasant, a product that does not perform is not a good value for me. I did not want to use the rest of the product at all.
Seller Refund and Customer Service
One positive part of this experience is that the seller reached out and gave me a full refund. They did not ask me to change my rating. Good customer service cannot make a formula work for your hair, but it can improve trust in a brand. That is why I changed my original rating from one star to four stars, even though my hair results remained disappointing. This is a useful point for anyone reading a Coco & Eve Shampoo Review: check how the seller handles negative feedback.
Final Verdict: Should You Try Coco & Eve Shampoo?
If you have straight or normal hair that loves coconut oil and protein, this Coco & Eve Shampoo Review might not apply to you. The product includes vegan, cruelty-free ingredients and is free from sulfates, silicones, and parabens. The scent and packaging are luxurious. However, if you have long wavy type 2b/c hair, a sensitive scalp, or hair that easily becomes dry and frizzy, approach this set with caution. You may want to buy the smallest size, patch test, or choose a formula designed for your exact curl pattern.
My final takeaway is that a product can be great in theory but terrible for a specific head of hair. For my long 2b/c hair, this Coco & Eve Shampoo Review sums up as a dry frizzy hair disaster. The "super hydrating" promise did not translate into real-world softness for me. The result was dry, frizzy hair and an itchy scalp. Always consider hair type, porosity, protein sensitivity, and customer service when deciding whether to try a popular shampoo.
