I adore the tingle from this shampoo that softens and volumizes hair.
This shampoo makes my hair soft, voluminous, and growing. It tingles, ideal for colored hair, and the spray helps styling.
This is a review from Amazon.com about product:
Tea Tree Tingle Color Special Color Conditioner & Shampoo Duo
I got older without actually paying any attention to that fact. This shampoo & conditioner (along with the styling spray) is just wonderful. You can feel that "tingle" in both products, but especially in the conditioner. It not only makes my hair softer and adds body, it makes the hair grow in areas where it was thinning. I don't like leaving any product in my scalp, but I do leave the conditioner on for awhile in the shower while finishing up my shower. I would bet it would be even better if I did leave the conditioner in afterward but I have some strange quirks. I do try and shower out the conditioner with colder water. It is great for colored hair and after exposure to chlorine pool water. Because my body is more broken down than most at 63, I also have trouble styling my hair with a blow dryer, but adding in the styling spray makes it much easier and doesn't hold it so tight that I can't straighten it out and get it corrected later. I think if they make a "hair spray" it would compliment the whole suite, but, as I mentioned, I don't like leaving stuff in my scalp. If you are used to it, I would recommend that you try it as well. It also holds up in the sun, which amazes me. I obviously color my hair and this shampoo will allow the sun to lighten and highlight my hair too. Just amazing stuff after so much oil based shampoo & conditioner that just made my hair even flatter and cling to my scalp.
Shampoo Basics & Tips
Understanding the Tingle Sensation
The tingling feeling in shampoo and conditioner often comes from ingredients like menthol, peppermint oil, or eucalyptus. These stimulate nerve endings on the scalp, increasing blood flow and providing a refreshing sensation. Improved circulation can enhance nutrient delivery to hair follicles, potentially supporting healthier hair growth. This is why many users report a invigorating experience, especially with conditioners left on longer, as mentioned in the review.
How Shampoo Softens Hair and Adds Body
Shampoos and conditioners achieve softness and volume through surfactants and conditioning agents. Surfactants cleanse by removing dirt and oil, while conditioners with silicones, proteins, or natural oils coat the hair shaft, smoothing cuticles and reducing friction. This adds body by preventing hair from lying flat, creating a fuller appearance. For thinning hair, volumizing products often contain lightweight polymers that lift roots without weighing hair down.
Promoting Hair Growth in Thinning Areas
Hair growth claims in shampoos may stem from ingredients like biotin, caffeine, saw palmetto, or ketoconazole. These can help by blocking DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a hormone linked to hair loss, or stimulating follicles. However, results vary; consistent use and a healthy lifestyle are key. Thinning areas might see improvement due to reduced breakage and better scalp health from moisturizing components.
Benefits for Colored Hair and After Chlorine Exposure
Shampoos for colored hair are typically sulfate-free to prevent stripping dye, and they include UV filters or antioxidants to protect against sun damage, which can lighten hair naturally. After chlorine exposure, such products may contain chelating agents to remove mineral buildup, preserving color and preventing dryness. This aligns with the review's note on sun resistance and post-swim care.
Using Styling Spray for Easier Blow-Drying
Styling sprays often contain heat protectants, such as dimethicone or panthenol, which shield hair from blow-dryer damage. They provide hold without stiffness by using flexible polymers, allowing for restyling later. This makes managing hair easier, especially for older adults or those with fine hair, as described in the review where it aids in straightening and correction.
Why Colder Water Rinse is Beneficial
Rinsing with colder water helps seal the hair cuticle, locking in moisture from conditioners and enhancing shine. It can reduce frizz and prevent color fading by minimizing cuticle swelling. This practice is common in hair care routines to maximize product benefits, as the reviewer mentions using it to wash out conditioner.
Comparison with Oil-Based Products
Oil-based shampoos and conditioners can weigh hair down, making it flat and greasy, as noted in the review. Water-based or lightweight formulas avoid this by providing hydration without heavy residues, ideal for fine or thinning hair. Choosing the right product depends on hair type; for volume and growth, opt for non-greasy options with nourishing but light ingredients.
Common Shampoo Questions and Tips
How often should you shampoo? It varies by hair type: oily hair may need daily washing, while dry or colored hair benefits from less frequent use to retain natural oils. Always apply conditioner from mid-length to ends to avoid scalp buildup. For thinning hair, gentle massaging during washing can boost circulation. If you have sensitivities, patch-test new products first. Remember, a balanced diet and reduced heat styling also support hair health.
