Paul Mitchell Super Smooth Conditioner, Controls Frizz, Adds Softness, For Frizzy Hair

Love this conditioner. Its great for my wirey, hard, unruly, wavy/curly, frizzy hair. Unfortunately I would stick to buying it at a store, a good quarter of the bottle leaked out in the plastic it was wrapped in as well as the shampoo. The smell is ok. Not terrible, not amazing. It's on the pricey side but the conditioner is worth it, not the shampoo. My hair is Shiney and soft when I use it and it takes all the tangles out so easily.
Shampoo Basics & Tips
What is Wirey Hair?
Wirey hair refers to hair that feels coarse, thick, and resistant to styling, often due to its texture and lack of moisture. It can be common in curly or wavy hair types and may result from genetics or environmental factors. Using a conditioner like the one reviewed can help soften and manage wirey hair by adding hydration and reducing brittleness.
Understanding Hard Hair
Hard hair typically describes hair that feels stiff, rough, or difficult to comb, often caused by product buildup, hard water, or natural oil imbalances. This can lead to tangles and frizz. Conditioners with moisturizing ingredients, such as silicones or natural oils, can soften hard hair by sealing the cuticle and improving elasticity.
Dealing with Unruly Hair
Unruly hair is hair that is hard to control, often frizzy, and prone to flyaways due to factors like humidity, damage, or curly textures. It can make styling challenging. Conditioners designed for unruly hair focus on providing hold and smoothness through ingredients like polymers or humectants, which help lock in moisture and reduce static.
Wavy and Curly Hair Characteristics
Wavy and curly hair types have natural bends or spirals that can vary from loose waves to tight curls. These hair types are more prone to dryness and frizz because the natural oils from the scalp have a harder time traveling down the hair shaft. Using a conditioner tailored for wavy or curly hair, as mentioned in the review, can enhance definition, reduce frizz, and maintain curl integrity by providing essential hydration.
What Causes Frizzy Hair?
Frizzy hair occurs when the hair cuticle is raised, allowing moisture to enter and swell the hair shaft, leading to a fuzzy appearance. Common causes include humidity, damage from heat styling, or lack of moisture. Conditioners for frizzy hair often contain smoothing agents like argan oil or shea butter to seal the cuticle and create a protective barrier against environmental factors.
Benefits of Conditioner for Hair
Conditioners work by coating the hair shaft to add moisture, reduce friction, and improve manageability. Key benefits include detangling, enhancing shine, and preventing breakage. In the review, the conditioner made hair shiny and soft by likely containing emollients and proteins that repair damage and add luster. Regular use can protect against daily stressors like brushing or UV exposure.
How Conditioners Remove Tangles
Tangles form when hair strands knot together due to friction, dryness, or texture issues. Conditioners contain slip agents, such as dimethicone or natural oils, that reduce friction and make combing easier. This aligns with the review's mention of tangles coming out easily, as these ingredients smooth the hair cuticle and prevent snagging.
Achieving Shiny and Soft Hair
Shiny hair results from a smooth cuticle that reflects light, while soft hair indicates good moisture levels. Conditioners achieve this through hydrating ingredients like glycerin or keratin, which fill in gaps in the hair shaft. The review highlights this outcome, showing how proper conditioning can transform dull, rough hair into a healthy-looking mane.
Common Shampoo and Conditioner Issues
Leakage in bottles, as noted in the review, can occur due to poor packaging or transportation damage. To avoid this, consider purchasing in stores or checking seals online. Additionally, smell in hair products varies based on fragrance blends; if it's not appealing, look for unscented options. Price is a factor—higher-cost items may use premium ingredients, but it's important to balance budget with effectiveness. For general hair care, choose sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners matching your hair type to avoid dryness and maintain results.
Tips for Choosing the Right Shampoo and Conditioner
Select products based on your hair type: for curly or frizzy hair, opt for moisturizing formulas with oils like coconut or jojoba. Avoid overwashing, as it can strip natural oils. Common questions include how often to condition (typically 2-3 times a week for dry hair) and whether to use shampoo first (yes, to cleanse before conditioning). Always do a patch test for allergies and read reviews to gauge real-world performance, similar to the insights shared in this evaluation.
