This is a review from Amazon.com about product:
OGX Clarifying Strength + Rosemary Mint Shampoo, Clarifying Shampoo Visibly Helps Remove Oil & Residue to Clear Away Buildup from Oily Hair, Sulfate-Free Surfactants, 13 fl. oz

I like this. It’s a good cheap clarifying shampoo. I have fine blond hair that gets oily. I wash it every other day with a hydrating shampoo, and use this clarifying shampoo once or twice a month to clarify and re set. I wash rinse and repeat to make sure it really cleans. My hair feels so soft after. Love how it smells. It’s probably gentle enough to use every day but I have fragile hair so I like to use a more hydrating shampoo in between clarifying.
Shampoo Basics & Tips
What is a Clarifying Shampoo?
A clarifying shampoo is a deep-cleansing hair product designed to remove buildup from oils, sweat, pollutants, and styling products like gels or sprays. Unlike regular shampoos, it contains stronger surfactants that strip away residues, helping to "reset" your hair by restoring its natural balance. In the review, the user mentions using it once or twice a month to clarify and re set their hair, which is a common practice to prevent buildup that can weigh down hair or cause dullness. Overuse might lead to dryness, so it's best for occasional deep cleans, especially for those with oily or product-heavy hair.
Understanding Fine and Oily Hair
Fine hair refers to hair strands that are thin in diameter, making them more prone to breakage and oiliness. Oily hair occurs when sebaceous glands on the scalp produce excess sebum, which can make hair look greasy and flat. In the review, the user has fine blond hair that gets oily, highlighting a common combination where fine hair tends to show oil more quickly. To manage this, using a clarifying shampoo helps remove excess oil without over-drying, while alternating with hydrating products maintains moisture balance. Tips for care include washing with lukewarm water and avoiding heavy conditioners on the scalp.
Benefits of Hydrating Shampoo
Hydrating shampoo is formulated to add moisture to the hair, often containing ingredients like oils, humectants, or proteins to prevent dryness and improve elasticity. The user washes their hair every other day with a hydrating shampoo, which helps maintain hydration between clarifying sessions. This balance is crucial for fragile hair, as over-clarifying can strip natural oils, leading to brittleness. Hydrating shampoos are ideal for daily or frequent use, especially if you have dry, damaged, or color-treated hair, as they support hair health by locking in moisture and reducing frizz.
Hair Washing Frequency and Techniques
Washing hair every other day, as mentioned in the review, is a common routine to balance cleanliness and natural oil production. Over-washing can strip protective oils, causing the scalp to produce more oil, while under-washing may lead to buildup. The "wash rinse and repeat" technique involves applying shampoo twice in one session: the first wash removes surface dirt, and the second ensures a deeper clean. This method is effective for oily hair but should be used sparingly to avoid dryness. Generally, hair type dictates frequency—oily hair may need more frequent washes, while dry hair benefits from less.
How Shampoo Leaves Hair Soft and Fragrant
Shampoos that leave hair soft often include conditioning agents like silicones or natural oils that smooth the hair cuticle. Fragrance adds a pleasant scent through essential oils or synthetic perfumes, enhancing the user experience. In the review, the hair feels soft after use, indicating effective cleansing and conditioning. To achieve this, look for shampoos with ingredients like argan oil or keratin. Additionally, soft hair results from proper rinsing and avoiding harsh chemicals. Fragrances can uplift moods but may irritate sensitive scalps, so opt for hypoallergenic options if needed.
Gentle Shampoo for Daily Use
Gentle shampoos are mild formulations with lower sulfate content or natural ingredients that clean without causing irritation or dryness. The user notes it's probably gentle enough for daily use but prefers not to due to fragile hair. This highlights the importance of tailoring shampoo use to hair needs—gentle options are suitable for sensitive scalps or frequent washing, but those with fragile hair might alternate with hydrating products to prevent damage. Common gentle ingredients include aloe vera or chamomile, which soothe the scalp and maintain hair integrity over time.
Common Shampoo Questions and Tips
Many people wonder how often to shampoo: for oily hair, every 2-3 days is typical, while dry hair may go longer. Clarifying shampoos should be used monthly to avoid buildup without over-drying. If hair feels brittle, consider sulfate-free options. Always follow with conditioner on the ends, not the scalp, to maintain balance. For fragrance lovers, scented shampoos can make routines enjoyable but test for allergies first. Remember, healthy hair starts with a balanced diet and minimal heat styling to complement your shampoo routine.
