Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Shampoo

This review is after a single use of the shampoo and conditioner (and pureology leave in conditioner) and my hair is noticeably smoother. I used it last night, went to sleep and my hair was about 90% dry and it was a lot less frizzy looking than in the past. What’s keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the scent. Ugh. It smells like old lady perfume and it’s very strong. If this product didn’t work as good as it does the scent would make me stop using it.
For those interested, I have thick course/curly hair. I’ve been using Avalon organics lavender shampoo and conditioner for about 2 years. I rarely use heat tools on my hair. I rarely use any other product (occasional hair spray) and take what I think is good care of my hair. Again, one use and I’m sold. Just can’t stand the scent.
Why One Wash Can Make Hair Smoother
My Moroccanoil shampoo review started with a surprise. After one use of the shampoo and conditioner, my hair was noticeably smoother. How can that happen in a single wash? The product is designed for damaged hair. It contains ingredients that help moisturise the hair shaft and smooth the outer cuticle. When the cuticle lies flat, hair reflects light better and feels silkier. That is the main reason so many customers report healthy, silky smooth hair after using this formula.
Understanding Coarse, Curly Hair and Frizz
I have thick, coarse, curly hair. This hair type tends to be drier than straight hair because natural oils cannot travel easily down the spiral. Dry hair absorbs moisture from the air, which causes the cuticle to swell and leads to frizz. A hydrating shampoo can help reduce this effect. After using this Moroccanoil shampoo, my hair looked less frizzy even when it was 90% dry. The smoothing benefits were clear after just one wash. For hair that is easily damaged, this kind of moisture support is essential.
The Signature Fragrance: Why It Is So Strong
One point I must explain is the scent. This product uses Moroccanoil's Fragrance Originale. It is an intense, floral perfume that stays in the hair. Some people love it; others compare it to "old lady perfume." Fragrance is personal, and the strength is not for everyone. The product info shows that many customers mention a fantastic scent, but also many mention it is overpowering. If you are sensitive to strong smells, you should try a smaller bottle first before committing. In my experience, the scent is the only negative part of this Moroccanoil shampoo review.
What Argan Oil Does for Hair
Moroccanoil shampoo is famous for argan oil. Argan oil is rich in fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamin E. These nutrients help nourish dry strands, strengthen damaged hair, and add shine. When used in shampoo, even a small amount can make hair feel softer. The product information lists damaged hair as the hair type, which matches my use. For best results, follow with a conditioner, because shampoo cleanses while conditioner helps lock in moisture.
Customer Reviews and Mixed Results
The product has 15,714 ratings and an average of 4.6 stars. It is also a best seller in the hair shampoo category. Customers agree that the quality is good and the shine is consistent. However, reviews are divided on some points. Some customers say it hydrates and softens their hair, while others say it makes their hair feel like straw. Frizz control also gets mixed opinions. Why? Hair type matters. If your hair is low porosity, heavy moisturising products can build up and make hair feel stiff. If your hair is high porosity, the same product can be very beneficial. My thick curly hair responded well, but not every hair type will react the same way.
How I Use It to Reduce Frizz
I used the Moroccanoil shampoo together with the matching conditioner and a leave-in conditioner. That extra hydration was important for my thick curls. I washed my hair at night, let it dry to about 90%, and then slept on it. In the morning, my hair was less frizzy and more manageable. If you have curly or damaged hair, using a leave-in product after this shampoo can improve results. Also, avoid rubbing hair with a towel; squeeze out excess water gently instead. I rarely use heat tools, which means the change I saw was not from styling damage.
Is This the Right Shampoo for You?
If your hair is smooth already, this Moroccanoil shampoo review may not be a dramatic change. If you have thick, coarse, curly, frizz-prone, or damaged hair, you are more likely to see benefits. The product offers shine, softness, and smoother texture. The main drawback is the strong fragrance. Value is another factor: the price is high, but a small amount of shampoo is enough. Many users feel the price is fair because the results are visible. If you can handle the scent, trying this Moroccanoil shampoo could be a game changer.
Final Thoughts on My Moroccanoil Shampoo Review
After only one use, my hair has never been smoother. The reduction in frizz was noticeable, and the shine lasted beyond the first day. The scent is still not my favourite, but it does not change the performance. If you are looking for a shampoo that helps damaged, curly, or coarse hair feel softer and look healthier, this product is worth considering. Just remember that individual results vary, and a strong floral fragrance is part of the Moroccanoil experience.
